Who Are We?

We place a high emphasis on quality control and staff training, all our staff are experienced in a wide range of computer software. We are always striving to keep up-to-date - technically and administratively. All staff carry out most of their work on their personal computers using our centralised network systems.

We are currently in the process of reducing our use of paper to make both offices paper free and fully electronic.

We are bound to a strict code of ethical and professional conduct. This ensures work is done to a high standard and strict confidentially is observed. Most of the work we do is of a confidential nature, therefore, it is important for our clients to develop a relationship based on trust and confidence with us. You will find the personal touch and knowledge of local conditions are often the prime reasons for successful businesses choosing us.

Quality control is monitored by our training group, Mercia Group. They provide their services to more than 180 firms of Chartered and Chartered Certified Accountants in the UK. The main benefits of these services are:

  • High quality, relevant and frequent staff training in all aspects of accountancy, tax and computer skills.
  • Specialist advice available, when beyond the resources of our in-house specialists.
  • Frequent and detailed checks on our standards and quality of work.

The practice of Peter Crane and Company was formed in 1979, and was originally based in Ladock, near Truro, Cornwall. In 1981 the practice moved to Newquay, Cornwall and has stayed there, only moving offices locally as the practice has expanded and larger offices have been needed. This expansion took the next logical step in 1993 by acquiring the Penzance practice of Chown and Robins (Established in 1921). This was in association with W A Johnston & Co which was established in 1946. In April 1995 the two Penzance practices merged, becoming Crane & Johnston. In 2004, the Penzance office absorbed the practice of Moffatt & Co, bringing their staff into our offices, and in 2010 the Newquay office took over the practice of Kelvin Copland. The two offices provide a wide range of services to some 1,100 clients.

The practice predominantly covers all areas of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly but we do have clients all over the United Kingdom and Internationally. We are always happy to provide our services to our clients wherever they are located.
